Lady Vikings’ bats boom in 3 easy SOC wins

AID — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings can be very offensive.
With their bats, not with their speech or actions.
The Lady Vikings had 45 hits and scored 49 runs as they got three lopsided Southern Ohio Conference wins this week.
Symmes Valley beat the Western Lady Indians 17-0 behind Kara Saunders’ two-hitter on Tuesday. The Lady Vikings had 14 hits with Saunders going 3-4 with a home run, double and five runs batted in.
“Kara did a real nice job at the plate plus her pitching. Three hits, a home run and a two-hit shutout is a pretty good game,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.
Sarah Kingery went 2-3 with a triple and three RBI, Emily Estep, Ericca Ross and Payton Hunter all went 2-4, Emily Sharp 2-2 and Morgan Jenkins 1-3 with a double.
After a scoreless first inning, Saunders singled in two runs in the second while Hunter had an RBI single and Jenkins doubled in a pair.
In the third, Kingery had a three-run triple and Saunders slugged a two-run homer. Emily Estep singled in the final run of the inning.
In the fourth, Saunders doubled in a run and Ross had an RBI single.
On Wednesday, the Lady Vikings rolled past the New Boston Lady Tigers 19-2 as Kingery pitched a four-hitter. She struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Saunders singled in a run and two passes balls scored runs as the Lady Vikings led 4-0 in the first inning.
Saunders doubled in two runs in the second inning while Estep, Ross and Hunter all singled in runs.
In the third, Saunders singled home a pair of runs and Jenkins and Sharp doubled in the other runs.
Saunders singled in two runs in the fifth and the third run scored on a wild pitch.
Saunders went 4-4 with a double and five more RBI. Estep was 3-3 with three RBi, Ross 3-5 and an RBI and Kingery 2-4.
On Thursday, Saunders was back in the circle and pitched a four-hitter. She struck out six and walked one.
Jenkins went 4-4 with two doubles to lead a 14-hit attack. Kingery was 2-4 with a double, Rachael Hayes 2-4, Saunders 2-3 with a double and Ross 2-3 and two RBI.
Saunders had a two-run single while Estep and Ross each had a sacrifice fly in a four-run first inning.
Kingery singled in two runs, Saunders doubled in a run and Ross singled in the fourth run during a third-inning rally.
In the fifth, Sharp doubled home two runs, Hayes singled in a run and Kingery doubled in two runs to end the game.
