The Ironton Kiwanis is calling their “No Bottoms Left Behind” diaper drive a “smashing success” after the group was able to add close to 4,000 diapers to the diaper bank at the Lawrence County Health Department.

Debbie Fisher, the Lawrence County Health Department health educator, called the project a godsend.

“Although they are needed by families our grant funding does not permit us to purchase these items. This donation really helped serve a major need. We’re already distributing these diapers,” she said. “Our diaper bank has an ongoing need. We really appreciate their effort and that of the community.”

Ironton Kiwanis project chair Emily Roush said they were blown away with response they got for the diaper drive.

“Kiwanis care about kids and so do our local folks. Our community did an awesome job. We’ll have another diaper drive in the fall,” she said. “In addition to everyone we contributed and helped make this a successful project, we also want to share special thanks for the fine folks at the Iron Town Coffee Lab, Black Bear Bakery, Liberty Bank, Citizens Deposit Bank, Ironton Child Welfare Club and Scherer Mountain Insurance.”

Anyone who did not contribute to the diaper drive but would like to, they still can.

“We encourage people to continue drop off diapers at our location, 2120 S Seventh St, Ironton” Fisher said.
