Lady Flyers fall at New Boston

NEW BOSTON — It started well but didn’t finish that way.
The St. Joseph Lady Flyers were guilty of six errors and the New Boston Lady Tigers collected 11 hits en route to a 12-2 win on Monday.
New Boston used a walk, a triple and a ground out to take a 2-0 first inning lead.
The Lady Flyers got a run in the second.
Paige Preston singled, Emma Whaley walked, both moved up on a wild pitch and Faith Mahlmeister had an RBI single.
St. Joseph tied the game in the third when Kelsey Malone tripled and scored on the catcher’s throwing error as New Boston attempted a pickoff play.
But New Boston took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth on four consecutive singles.
The lead went to 8-2 in the fifth on three hits and a Lady Flyers’ error.
The Lady Tigers put the game away with four runs in the sixth and three hits, two errors and a passed ball.
Alex Holtzapfel and Malone each went 2-3 to lead the Lady Flyers. Preston, Mahlmeister and Kaitlyn Sheridan were all 1-3.
The Lady Flyers visits South Gallia on Wednesday.
