On Thursday, Ohio University Southern will recognize 148 students during its spring graduate recognition ceremony. The recognition activities begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Shafer Courtyard, located near the Riffe Center at the Ironton Campus.
The students have completed their studies and will soon earn their degrees from Ohio University.
Among the Southern Campus students to be recognized are 75 students who are earning associate degrees, and 77 students are earning bachelor degrees.
The ceremony will be convened by Tyler Walters, chair of the Ohio Southern Coordinating Council.
The banner carrier for the ceremony will be Chynna Pearson, 2019 Outstanding Graduate. Pearson will also lead the invocation and pledge to the flag.
The National Anthem will be presented by associate degree candidate Kim Cartes, 2019 graduate.
Nicole Pennington, OUS dean, will preside over the ceremony, which will include recognition of graduates and the naming of the 2019 Dr. Dan Evans Alumni Leadership Award.
DeAnna Holliday, Lawrence County Commissioner, will serve as keynote speaker and will offer the Charge to the Graduates.
A reception for the degree candidates and their families will take place immediately following the ceremony in the Shafer Courtyard.
In the event of inclement weather, the graduate recognition ceremony will be moved indoors to the Bowman Auditorium. Attendees would also be able to view a livestream of the ceremony from an overflow viewing area that will be established in the Mains Rotunda of the Riffe Center, in case of rain.
