PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redwomen saluted their three seniors the best way they knew how.
With a win.
Rock Hill got 11 hits to back the five-hit pitching of Kylee Howard in an 8-1 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Portsmouth Lady Trojans on Wednesday.
“We’re proud of our senior leaders Sami (Stamper), Kelsey (Olderham) and Haleigh (Rowe). We’re happy to see them get the win on their senior night,” said Redwomen coach Brooke Long.
Howard struck out two and walked two in going the distance.
Grace Stevens was 2-4 with a triple, Howard 3-4, Makenzie Hanshaw 2-3 with a double and Baylie Harrah 2-4 and two RBI for Rock Hill.
“It’s nice to get that conference win after losing earlier in the season at their place,” said Long.
Rock Hill (15-5, 8-5) got going early with four runs in the first inning.
Stevens and Kylee Howard singled, Hanshaw walked, Harrah had an RBI single and Keilie Adams smacked a double.
Olderham then singled in the final run.
The Redwomen added a run in the second when Stevens tripled and came home when Rileigh Morris grounded out.
Portsmouth got its only run in the third when Kylisha Kearns singled and Madison Perry doubled.
The Redwomen then scored twice in the fourth to lead 7-1 as Morris doubled, Howard singled and Hanshaw doubled.
The final run scored in the sixth on singles by Howard and Hanshaw and Adams’ squeeze bunt.
