Veterans picnic to be held June 1

Tri-State Chapter #949, Vietnam Veterans of America, West Virginia Marine Corps Coordinating Council and the Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District will be having its eighth annual “Military and Veterans Appreciation Picnic” for all military, veterans and their guests in the Tri-State area.

The event will take place from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on June 1 at Harris Riverfront Park in Huntington, West Virginia.

The public is invited; however, only military, veterans and their guests will be served lunch.

Please bring proof of service.

There will be free food, live music, games, door prizes, weapons display, military vehicle and equipment displays as well as classic and antique cars.

The menu will include BBQ, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, water, soda, ice cream and watermelon.

For a donation, people can ride a World War II landing craft on the Ohio River, in either a Higgins Boat, an AMTRAC or a DUWK.

There will also be a flyover by World War II military aircraft and Civil War Reenactors will perform a ‘live fire’ exercise.
