This was a classic pitcher’s duel.
Ironton’s Keegan Moore continued her dominating form this season with a three-hitter as the Lady Fighting Tigers edged the Rock Hill Redwomen and Kylie Howard 1-0 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Moore threw 71 pitches of which 60 were strikes. The freshman struck out 12 and did not walk a batter.
“Moore pitched well again tonight against a good Rock Hill team. Our defense played well behind her,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.
Howard was impressive as well. She gave up just five hits and walked two batters in going the distance.
After five and one-half scoreless innings, Ironton finally dented the scoreboard.
With one out, Demi Sands doubled and went to third on a line drive single by Moore who went to second on an outfield error.
Haylee Stevens came up with the clutch hit as she singled to right field scoring Sands and Moore going to third.
“Haylee Stevens is continuing to make good contact,” said Fields.
Ironton had a chance to add to its lead as Riley Schreck hit a screaming line drive to center that was caught by Abbi Morrison. Moore tried to score but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
Howard singled to start the bottom of the inning. But after an infield pop out, Baylie Harrah hit a liner back to the mound that Moore caught and turned into a double play that ended the game.
Ironton is now 22-1 on the season and finishes 14-0 in the OVC. Rock Hill fell to 14-6 and 9-5 in the league.
