Lady Hornets down Lady Dragons, 8-5
COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets must like teasing their opponents.
The Lady Hornets took the lead, then the Fairland Lady Dragons came back to tie it only to have the Lady Hornets regained the lead and then hang on for an 8-5 Ohio Valley Conference win on Monday.
Coal Grove scored five runs in the third inning only to have the Lady Dragons rally for five runs of their own to tie the game in the fourth inning.
The deadlock didn’t last long as Coal Grove got a run in the fifth and added two more in the sixth en route to the win.
Coal Grove had 10 hits as Addi Dillow was 2-4 with a run batted in and Amber Schwartz 2-3 with two RBI.
Chloe Cremeans was 2-3 for Fairland. Holli Leep went 1-3 with a triple and three RBI and Adrianna Hoffman 1-4 with a double and an RBI.
Kaleigh Murphy got the win as she struck out 10, walked only one and none of the runs were earned. She also went 1-4 with an RBI.
Jaiden Griffith and Macy Malone were 1-4 with an RBI, Katie Deeds 1-2 and both Rylee Harmon and Emily Carpenter 1-3 for Coal Grove.
Hoffman took the loss as she fanned four, walked one and only three runs were earned.
