The Lucasville Valley Lady Indians didn’t score an earned run. Unfortunately, unearned runs still count.
The St. Joseph Lady Flyers committed eight errors in a 12-1 loss to Lucasville Valley on Monday in the Division IV sectional tournament.
Valley scored four runs in the first inning on a walk, two infield hits and two errors that scored two runs each.
Valley got a run in the second on a two-out single that got through the outfield for a two-base error and the run then scored when the next batter singled.
St. Joseph got a run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Isabella Griffiths walked, went to second on a wild pitch, moved up on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.
But the Lady Indians combined five singles with four St. Joseph errors to score seven unearned runs in the fifth inning.
The loss left the Lady Flyers 10-11 on the season and marked the final game for seniors Kelsey Malone, Alex Holtzapfel, Paige Preston and Isabella Griffiths.
