Rowe, Mahlmeister help trigger win over Rebels

The St. Joseph Flyers used a sophomore battery and it put a charge into the lineup.
In a strong all-around performance, the Flyers beat the South Gallia Rebels 19-4 in five innings on Tuesday.
Rowe stuck out nine, walked only one and two of the four runs were unearned. He also went 3-4 at the plate.
Mahlmeister went behind the plate and had his most productive game of the season by going 4-5 with a double and three runs batted in.
“Jackson threw well. He had good velocity and he was throwing his curve for strikes,” said Flyers’ coach Greg Bryant.
“We hit the ball well. All three seniors had hits.”
Isaac Whaley was 2-3 with three RBI, Ethan Clark 1-3 with an RBI and Jaden Mejia 1-3 as all three seniors played.
Matt Sheridan and Andrew White each went 2-2.
The Flyers (15-8) settled the outcome early by scoring seven runs in each of the first two innings.
In the first, Rowe singled, stole second and scored on Sheridan’s hit. Sheridan moved up on two wild pitches and scored on Whaley’s base hit.
Whaley stole second and came around to score on a pair of wild pitches.
Michael Mahlmeister walked and courtesy runner Izsak “Sweet Feet” Unger moved up on Jimmy Mahlmeister’s base hit. Ryan Payne was safe on a fielder’s choice to load the bases and an error scored two runs.
Payne went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error.
Ethan Clark singled, moved up on a wild pitch and scored when Rowe was safe on an error.
In the second, Michael Mahlmeister was hit by a pitch and scored on Jimmy Mahlmeister’s double. Payne walked and Max Weber doubled home both runners.
Mejia singled and Clark’s ground out scored a run. Rowe singled, Sheridan walked to load the bases and Whaley singled in a run.
Unger walked to force in a run and Jimmy Mahlmeister singled in a run.
After the Rebels got two runs in the top of the third, the Flyers answered with three in the bottom of the inning.
White singled, Clark walked and Rowe singled to load the bases. Whaley and Unger walked to force in a runs and Payne’s single drove in the third run.
South Gallia got a run in the fourth only to have the Flyers get two runs in their half of the inning.
White singled, Mejia was safe on an error and Elijah Rowe singled in a run. Whaley walked and Jimmy Mahlmeister singled in the final run.
