Sharon Fryer

July 19, 1941– May 10, 2019

Sharon Scott Fryer, 77, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, formerly of Ironton, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2019, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

Mrs. Fryer was born July 19, 1941, in Ironton, to the late Clarence H. and Freda A. Justice Scott.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fryer was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, James E. “Bud” Fryer.

Mrs. Fryer was a 1959 graduate of Ironton High School and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1966 from Ohio University. She was a secretary at Barnes Plumbing and Heating as well as the Lawrence County Welfare Department. Sharon was a schoolteacher at Decatur Elementary and Rock Hill Elementary. After 30 years of teaching, Mrs. Fryer retired in 1991.

Mrs. Fryer is survived by a sister-in-law, Betty (Bill) Fryer Kinner of Summit, Kentucky; two nephews, James and Micheal Kinner of Summit, Kentucky; two great-nieces, Elizabeth and Allyson Kinner of Ashland, Kentucky; two great-nephews, Jordan and Aiden Kinner of Summit, Kentucky; several cousins; and a host of extended family, friends, and students who will always remember her.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton with Pastor Dicky Tiller officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sharon’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN, 38101.

The family has entrusted Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Kentucky with the arrangements.

Carrie Riedel

June 1, 1926– May 13, 2019

Carrie B. Riedel, 92, of Ironton, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 13, 2019. Carrie was born June 1, 1926, a daughter of the late Albert and Gertrude Steed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Riedel; sons, Paul and Jerry Riedel; brothers, John, Calvin and Carl Steed; two sisters, Virginia Steed and Betty Heffner; and daughter-in-law, Linda Riedel.

She was a member of Sugar Creek Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Lena (Roger) Lamply, Betty (Ronnie) Cade; two sons, Frank “Donnie” (Elizabeth) Riedel and Johnny Riedel; brother, Landon Steed; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren

Private graveside service will be at Sugar Creek Cemetery.
