Day one produced two winners.
The Chesapeake Panthers Kamren Harless and Rock Hill Redmen T.J. McGinnis both took first place in their respective events during the first day of the Division II district track and field meet at Meigs High School.
The remainder of the finals will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional tournament next Thursday at 5 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Muskingum University in New Concord.
McGinnis was the district discus champion with a throw of 156-4. Ironton’s Hunter Humphreys was fifth at 132-8.
Harless also came away with a first-place finish by leaping 21-feet in the long jump. Ironton’s John Higgins was eighth with a jump of 18-7.25.
The Panthers’ Brady Wilson and Izaiaha Willis both cleared 11-4 and finished third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault.
Fighting Tigers’ Ben Chapman went 10-6 and was seventh while Williams Harrison cleared 10-feet and finished in the three-way tie for eighth.
Fairland Lady Dragons’ Allie Marshall advanced to the regional meet after finishing second in the high jump at 5-foot. She lost to Hanna Cremeans of Alexander on misses.
South Point Lady Pointers Ayaiah Sharp was fourth in the high jump at 4-8 to advance.
In the girls’ 4×800 relay, Fairland’s Emma Marshall, Haleigh Fuller, McKenna Pannell and Olivia Lewis ran a 10:38.23 to place fifth.
In the boys’4×800 relay. the Rock Hill Redmen team of Victor Aguilera, Eli Baker, Ethan Miller and Noah Wood was second with an 8:16.67 time.
In the Division III district meet at Chillicothe Southeastern High School, two local athletes have earned the right to advance to the regional meet.
Coal Grove Hornets’ Ben Compliment finished third in the discus with a toss of 134-feet, 8-inches. Green Bobcats’ Ethan Huffman was third in the long jump with a leap of 19-2.

In the girls’ 4×800 relay finals, the Rock Hill Redwomen were fifth as Tru Pancake, Bella Stevens, Camryn Miller and Bell Stevens ran an 11:38.05 time.
The Coal Grove boys’ 4×800 team also placed fifth as Dylan French, Jeffrey Sparks, Colton Kuhn and Evan Holmes had an 8:56.58 clocking.
Coal Grove’s Justin Hicks was eighth in the long jump at 17-2.5 while Morgan Schultz cleared 9-6 to place eighth in the pole vault.
