COAL GROVE — There is only one week left to go for Dawson-Bryant Elementary students and, on Friday, they visited the district’s high school to enjoy a day of exercise outdoors.

The school’s kindergarten through fifth grade students took part in Field Day, where they rotated between a series of stations which included jump ropes, hula hoops, basketball, a parachute, a javelin throw with pool noodles, relay races, potato sack race, a long jump, hula hoops and tug of war.

“We open it up and parents are welcome to come and walk around the activities with their kids,” principal Angie Lafon said. “And our bus drivers and cooks grill out and serve hot dogs and hamburgers.”

She said the event takes place with help from parent volunteers, as well as students from the middle school and high school who lead the stations.

“There are two students at each of those,” she said.

She said the staff of the high school helped set up the day, along with the maintenance supervisor.

“It really is a district effort,” Lafon said. “I appreciate the efforts of everyone to come together to create a good day for our kids.”

The last day of Dawson-Bryant classes is May 24.
