Dragons hang on to win sectional title

PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Dragons held on, so now they get to carry on.
The Dragons built a 7-1 lead, then held off the Crooksville Ceramics 7-6 to win the Division III sectional tournament and advance to the district tournament.
Fairland (17-5) will play Adena at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.
Kyle Rankin hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning that gave Fairland a 7-1 lead and provided the Dragons with the margin of victory.
Crooksville got four runs in the sixth inning and added a run in the seventh while leaving the tying and go-ahead runs on base.
Garrett Looney went 5.1 innings for the win. He allowed nine hits, five runs — all earned — with two strikeouts and three walks.
Alex Rogers got the save with 1.2 innings of work. He gave up two hits, one earned run with one strikeout and one walk.
Rogers went 2-3, Dacoda Chapman 2-2 with a two-run double, Rankin 1-3 with the home run and both Brennan West and Gavin Hunt were 1-4.
