Deborah Smathers

Jan. 8, 1955– May 19, 2019

Deborah Suzanne (Pennington) Smathers, 64, of Willow Wood, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.

She was born in Lawrence County on Jan. 8, 1955, to the late Bobby and Betty (Marshall) Pennington. She was the wife of Danny Smathers, whom she married, Aug. 28, 2003, who survives.

Funeral services will be at noon, Thursday, at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, with Pastor Scott Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Charles Massey

May 3, 1920– May 15, 2019

Charles William Massey, 99, died on May 15, 2019, at Ashland Community Hospice. He was the widower of Colleen Massey. He was born in Hinton, West Virginia to Doc and Minnie Ramsey Massey on May 3, 1920.

He was a member of First Methodist Church, Ironton, retired from C&O Railroad and a World War II Air Force veteran.

Survivors include three sons, Steve (Regina) Massey, David “Rick” (Lisa) Massey, Mike Massey and Mike Fortin; grandchildren include Erika (Dan) Friesenhengst, Michelle (Jason) Mendoza, Stephanie (Matt) Fojas, Ashley (Josh) Castillo, and Katie (Kerry) Green; and great-grandchildren include Greysen and Aubrie Friesenhengst, Annabelle and Lillian Mendoza, Charlie and Bennett Fojas, Kenny Green and Enoch Castillo.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Mountain View Cemetery in Pulaski, Virginia.

O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

Maybelle Kiger

Maybelle Kiger, 62, of Huntington, West Virginia, widow of David Kraig Kiger, died Sunday, May 19, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, South Point.

Visitation is 6–8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the funeral home to help the family with expenses.
