CHILLICOTHE — Rain forced the delay of Thursday’s Division III district semifinal game.
The Fairland Dragons would have preferred a rain out.
Fairland never got its game going as the Dragons lost 11-0 to the Adena Warriors.
Adena (18-10) manufactured a run in the first inning when Nate Throckmorton was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.
The Warriors got two more runs in the second inning with some help from Fairland.
Garrett Wilburn singled, Roman Long reached on an error, a balk put runners and second and third where they scored on Jarrett Garrison’s two-run double.
The lead went to 6-0 in the third inning.
Ethan Kunkel singled, stole second and scored on Caleb Foglesong’s single. Zach Fout and Garrett Wilburn walked to load the bases and Roman Long was safe on a throwing error that allowed two runs to score.
Fairland (18-9) threatened in the bottom of the inning as Brennan West beat out an infield hit, Gavin Hunt singled to lead and Alex Rogers walked to load the bases with two outs.
Reilly Sowards then hit a deep fly ball into the gap only to have Fout to make a nice running catch to rob Sowards of a hit.
Adena tacked on a run in the fifth inning when Foglesong singled, moved up on a passed ball and scored on Wilburn’s base hit.
The lead went to 8-0 in the sixth when Lucas Folgesong led off with a triple and scored on Throckmorton’s ground out.
In the seventh, Wilburn singled and Long walked to start the inning. After a pop out and a force play, Lucas Foglesong hit the ball in the gap and turned the hit into an inside-the-park home run and the lead was 11-0.
West went 2-4 and Hunt 1-3 to account for all of Fairland’s offense.
Caleb and Lucas Foglesong are the grandsons of former longtime Ironton assistant football coach Buck Foglesong and his wife Wilma.
Minford beat Wellston 12-2 in Thursday’s first game and will face Adena at 11 a.m. Saturday in the district finals.
