With the last of 12 divisions having marched by, the 151st Ironton-Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade is now in the history books.

As is the case each year, thousands crowded the city’s streets to watch the event, to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to celebrate the veterans who returned home.

With hundreds of participants, the parade is no small feat and we commend the leadership of the parade committee for organizing this event, particularly this year’s leaders — grand marshal Rich Donohue, honorary grand marshal Gary Roberts and parade commander James Rowe.

It can not be said enough what a treasure this parade is for the city and county.

As members of The Tribune staff, many of us have worked in various cities and states, but we can easily say that you would be hard pressed to find another city in this region, or even the county, that honors those who have served as Ironton does.
