Residents at Harbor HealthCare of Ironton had a special visitor on Thursday.

Angel, a llama from Good News Llamas, of Chesapeake, was brought by the activity room of the nursing home to meet with residents.

Good News Llamas is owned by Tom and Judy Ross. The couple has 18 llamas and two alpacas at their farm.

“We’ve been to probably every one in the area,” Tom Ross said of their nursing home visits. “Yesterday, we did one close to home. We’ve been to the Woodlands in Huntington. And we did a Vacation Bible School in Ironton this week.”

He said they also host visits to their farm from groups such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and area churches.

“They can cook out and loaf with the llamas,” he said.

The visit seemed quite popular, with many of the residents wanting to pet Angel, as well as pose for photos with her.

Melissa Garris, the activities director for the facility, said this is the third time they have had the Rosses stop by with one of their llamas.

“They usually come once a yea year and the people here love it,” she said.
