GREEN TOWNSHIP – An Ironton man was killed and a woman was hospitalized due to a single vehicle crash on Gallia Pike on Monday.

The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at about 6:50 p.m. a quarter mile north of Ironton Avenue in Green Township.

The right front passenger, Timothy Stapleton, 53, of Ironton, , who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected and trapped underneath the vehicle. He was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police said drug impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by troopers at the Portsmouth Post of the State Highway Patrol.
