ASHLAND — Boyd County Public Library staff is wearing jeans and shorts to work during summer months which means several non-profit organizations will benefit from money the library is raising during the campaign.

Library staff members are donating $1 to $2 each day they wear jeans or shorts to work Memorial Day through Labor Day which will be distributed to the non-profit organizations. Last year’s effort raised $500 and Library Director Debbie Cosper is confident they will meet or exceed the previous amount.

“The tradition started when staff asked me to be able to wear jeans or shorts in the summer,” Cosper said. “Initially, it helped fund an annual party for the staff but it became an opportunity to raise money for local causes and has remained quite popular.”

This year, the staff requested that the funds be divided among five organizations and selected the groups that will receive the money. Shelter of Hope, Ashland Animal Rescue Fund, Safe Harbor, Boyd County Cares and Hope’s Place each will receive $100 from donations from BCPL.
