Ruth Gillenwater

May 23, 1934 – June 14, 2019

Ruth Evelyn Gillenwater, 85, of Ironton, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019, at a local nursing home facility. Mrs. Gillenwater was born May 23, 1934, in Lawrence County, a daughter to the late William, Sr. and Georgia Marie (Large) Harmon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray Gillenwater, whom she married in Feb. 3, 1955.
Mrs. Gillenwater attended Dawson Bryant Local Schools and was a former cook for Open Door School. Mrs. Gillenwater enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Getaway.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Lelsie Harmon, Curtis Harmon, Wayne Harmon and William Harmon Jr.
She is survived by two daughters, Kenna J. Kelley, of Ironton, and Beth Ann (Jeff) Taylor of Wilmington, North Carolina; three sons, David (Paula) Gillenwater, Thomas (Delores) Gillenwater and Scott (Christy) Gillenwater all of Ironton; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; siblings, Betty E. Hankins, Ralph Harmon, David Harmon, Connie Hanshaw and Sandra Moore.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. 6th St., Ironton, with Bro. Brad Hitchcock officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be David Gillenwater, Tom Gillenwater, Scott Gillenwater, Rocky Truesdale, Mike Cartmell, Jeff Taylor, Ben Taylor, Ben Blake and Matthew Kelley.

Pheobe Hankins

Aug. 14, 1937– June 13, 2019

Pheobe Jo Hankins, 81, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019, at a local nursing home facility.
Mrs. Hankins was born Aug. 14, 1937, in Huntington, West Virginia, a daughter to the late Ernest B. and Lulabelle (Craig) Welch. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) A. Hankins, whom she married June 29, 1956.
Mrs. Hankins was a graduate of Raceland High School and was a homemaker. Mrs. Hankins enjoyed spending time with her family and was a member of Zoar Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Welch and a sister, Judy Bundy.
She is survived by two daughters, Melinda (Larry) Bundy and Vicki Hankins both of Ironton; son, Darren (Kim) Hankins of Santa Fe, Texas; two grandchildren, Michael (Kaitlyn) Wilcoxon of Ironton and Darrien Hankins (Heath) Jones of Santa Fe, Texas; one great-grandchildren, Harper Jade and a sister, Gloria Welch of Worthington, Kentucky.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. 7th St., Ironton, with Rev. Jim Beals officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Betty Koehler

Betty J. Koehler, 89, of South Point, died Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point is assisting the family with arrangements, which are incomplete.

Carolyn Lewis

March 21, 1943 – June 15, 2019

Carolyn L. Rutledge Lewis, 76, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Mrs. Lewis was born March 21, 1943, in Ironton, a daughter of the late Ralph and Mildred (Gossett) Rutledge.
Mrs. Lewis was a 1961 graduate of Ironton High School, and retired from Department of Job and Family Services in 1996. She was a member of the Metropolitan Housing Authority Board and Christ United Methodist Church in Ironton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by granddaughter, Kate Lewis (daughter of Chris and Melanie Lewis of South Australia.)
She is survived by two sons; Chris (Melanie) Lewis of South Australia and Scott Lewis of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter Andrea (Sean) Davis of Ironton; grandchildren: Adam (Lindsey) Lewis of Rhode Island, Carrie (Jordan) Stafford of Lexington, Emily Davis and Luke Davis both of Ironton; a sister, Katrine Henthorn of South Point and a brother, David (Su) Rutledge of Grove City.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery, with Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. 7th St., Ironton, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bryan Nunley

Bryan Glen Nunley, 54 of Proctorville, died on Wednesday June 12, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.
A graveside service was held Monday at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veteran’s Cemetery in Dunbar, West Virginia.
