Each year, the Lawrence County Fair ends with its auctions of small and large animals.

Established by the late Don Lambert a few decades back, the event serves as the chief fundraiser for the individual 4-H members, with all proceeds going to them.

Members of the Junior Fair board stopped by The Tribune on Wednesday and spoke of the importance these auctions have to them, with the money raised funding their projects for the next year, helping them to start a business or going toward college.

Unfortunately, over the past few years, the funds from the auctions have been in decline and 4-H members are in search of individuals and businesses to bid and take part in the auctions.

As anyone who has spoken with these young farmers can attest, a lot of hard work goes into their projects, with most spending a few years raising the larger animals.

It is only fitting that they see a reward for their effort and the funds are always needed.

We urge all business and those who are in a position to do so to consider attending this year’s auction.

And for those who can’t make it, donations can also be made directly to 4-H by contacting Rachel Fraley at the extension office through Ohio State University.
