Event will feature local, regional acts, games

GREENUP, Ky. — The hills of Greenup, Kentucky, will be alive with the sound of music when Greenbo Lake State Resort Park has its annual Greenup County Music Festival on July 13.
The festival is free of charge and will be at the resort’s amphitheater.

First up will be Roger Smith, of Argillite, at 6 p.m. The remaining lineup features Emmy Davis at 6:15 p.m., Bonnie, Shannon & Friends at 7:15 p.m., Josh Brown & the Hard Livin’ Legends at 8:15 p.m. and Sean Whiting at 9:15 p.m.

Anne Stephens, the extension agent for community arts in Greenup County through the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service, said this is the 10th year for the festival and they like to have a mix of local musicians and something new.

“What we try to do is feature some of our local talent and then incorporate something new that hopefully, people have not experienced before,” she said. “We have so much local talent, they could play for days and days and not have any repeats.”

The amphitheater and concessions open at 4:30 p.m.

“We have some local vendors, some local artisans and gardening vendors,” Stephens said.

“It’s a local arts and crafts type of thing and we encourage people to come and spend a little money with our local people.”

She said they will also have traditional games like Frisbee, horseshoes, ring toss and football.

“You can spend the whole evening and have some fun. And there are indoor, air conditioned bathrooms, which is always a plus for these types of events,” Stephens said. “There will also be lots of giveaways from the UK nutritional program. We want to highlight that arts and wellness connection.”

She also recommends bringing a chair and a blanket to watch the show.

Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is on KY 1, 18 miles north of Interstate 64 from the Grayson exit, or 8 miles south of U.S. 23, the Country Music Highway, on KY 1.

Greenbo Lake has a 225-acre lake for boating and fishing, campground, tennis courts, and 25 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding.
