SOUTH POINT — Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said two men were arrested last week in connection with an armed robbery at the Dollar General Store in South Point.

In a news release, deputies said they were told by store personnel that, at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, two male suspects entered the store, at 314 Township Road 508, wearing bandanas to cover portions of their faces and brandished a small handgun.

Deputies said the suspects demanded money from a store clerk at the register and, after getting the money, fled on foot.

Deputies, along with officers from the South Point and Chesapeake police departments began a search of the area.

Deputies said, after receiving a tip from a citizen, they were led to a residence about a half mile from the store.

The two suspects were found in the backyard of the residence and a foot pursuit began, with one suspect apprehended as he tried to climb a fence. The other was apprehended several blocks away.

Money from the robbery was also recovered, deputies said.

Deputies named the two suspects as Zachary Hay, 18, of South Point, and Jason C. Addison, 18, of Huntington. Both were said to have confessed their involvement to sheriff’s detectives.

Hay and Addison were arraigned on Monday in Lawrence Municipal Court on charges of first-degree felony armed robbery. Addison also faces a charge of resisting arrest.

The case remains under investigation and more charges could be added, Lawless said.

No one at the store was reported injured.
