A drive will take place at the Party Place in Ironton on Saturday to help collect items for veterans.

The aim of the effort, by Silver Spurs 4-H Club, is to gather items for homeless veterans that are moving into housing, organizer Shawn Koster said.

He said they are working to collect small appliances, such as toasters, and other supplies that may be needed in the new homes.

They are also seeking hygiene items, kitchen supplies, non-perishable food and new clothing items.

“Basically anything you’d need when you move into a new place,” Koster said.

Those seeking to contribute can drop off items at the Party Place, located at 206 S. Third St. from noon-5 p.m.

Items can also be donated prior to that date by calling Kari at 304-972-6056, Michelle at 304-634-0983 or Koster at 740-550-1908, Koster said.

Koster said there will also be a fundraiser scheduled by Super Marty’s Sidekicks, a nonprofit organization, to raise funds for handicapped-accessible playground equipment for Ironton schools.

This will take place from 10-a.m-9 p.m. at the Farmers Market in Ironton on Saturday, July 20, he said.

Koster said the event will have a raffle, food, vendors, music, refreshments and inflatables for children.
