Stephan Call

March 6, 1953 — June 13, 2019

Stephan Daniel Call, 66, of Ironton, passed away June 13, 2019, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.

The Lorain native was born March 6, 1953 a son to the late Virgil and Patricia (Culig) Call. Stephan is survived by his son, Brandon Call, of Loveland.

Mr. Call was a 1971 graduate of Ashland (Ohio) High School. Stephan went on to enlist in the United States Army where he served in the Garry Owen Cavalry.

He also went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree from Ashland (Ohio) University. Stephan worked as a professor of travel and sport pedagogy at Ohio University. He also was a “folk hero,” president of Brown’s Backers Club, member of The Ironton Elks, Moose Lodge, Kiwanis, The American Legion and worked on occasion at the Ironton Tribune.

Steve had many interests. He was a lifelong, long-suffering fan of the Cleveland Brown and Indians. He enjoyed visiting spring training. He was an avid traveler and adventurer-operating Ohio University Travel and Civilized Tours. Stephan coached football at Lorain Admiral King, Lorain Southview, Oberlin College and Baldwin Wallace College. He played semi-professional football for the Mohican Raiders.

In addition to his son, Stephan is survived by three brothers, Scott (Mary) Call, of Lisbon, Portugal, Matthew (Sally) Call, of Wooster, and Patrick (Katrina) Call, of Greeley, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S 6th St., Ironton. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #8850. Visitation with the family will be from 2 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bill Tyson

June 23, 2019

William “Bill” Tyson, 68, of Ironton, died Sunday, June 23, 2019 at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky.

He was born in Cincinnati, a son of the late Cecil and Delores Schooler Tyson. He was an Air Force veteran and was the head chef for C.R. Thomas in Ironton.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Tyson; one son, Christopher Tyson; stepchildren, Amber (Andy) Robinson, of Patriot, and Mandy (Sarah Kimball) Myers, of Lexington, Kentucky; one brother, Butch (Jolene) Tyson, of Kentucky; and several grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Amber Faith Tyson.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. There will be no funeral service.

Ernestine Patterson

June 24, 2019

Ernestine Patterson, 87, of Ironton, died Monday, June 24, 2019 at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. She was born in Ironton, a daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth Kelly Hardy.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed flower gardening and cooking.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, John D. Patterson, Sr.; one brother, James Hardy; a sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Ralph Koster; a brother-in-law, Bill Huff Sr; and a step great-granddaughter Peyton Humphrey.

She is survived by two sons, Jimmy R. (Patty) Patterson, John D. Patterson, Jr; one daughter Tammy (Floyd) Webb, all of Ironton; two sisters, Thelma Huff and Erma (Tim) Sark; one sister-in-law, Rose Hardy, all of Ironton; one granddaughter Brittany (Bryan) Steele of Ironton; a step-granddaughter, Trisha (Greg) Drake; and two step-great-grandchildren, Emme Drake and Preston Drake, all of Louisville, Kentucky.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Friends may call from noon-1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point.

Mark Layne

Mark Layne, 76, of Burlington, died Sunday, June 23, 2019.

Funeral service will be conducted by Bishop Gary Edwards at noon on Thursday at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home in Chesapeake. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Proctorville.

Proctorville VFW Post will conduct military graveside rites.

Shelia Kingery

Shelia Joyce Kingery, 62, of Proctorville, died Monday, June 24, 2019, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia.

Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with Pastor Wetzel Bias officiating. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville,. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.

Lewis McKinney

Lewis Ray McKinney, 72, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at home. He is survived by his wife, Teresa McKinney.

Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.  Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville.  Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
