ASHLAND — Community Hospice has planned a new volunteer orientation session on Wednesday and Thursday, July 24-25 at their Ohio office, located at 2029 S. Third St. in Ironton. The sessions are from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. both days. Volunteers must complete the required training to be certified.

Community Hospice volunteers are a big part of their team, providing care and support to patients who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness and to their families. Their volunteers come from all walks of life, span a large age range from teenagers to seniors and many in between.

Volunteers determine when and how often they are available to assist.

As part of the We Honor Veterans initiative, military veterans are asked to provide companionship to our patients who are also veterans. Other Community Hospice volunteers work with the bereavement department making supportive phone calls.

Volunteers working at the Community Hospice Care Center serve as a greeter/receptionist, staff the hospitality cart, or help care for their resident dog, Sophie.

Other volunteers provide administrative support working at their offices, performing clerical duties or running errands and shopping. There is also a large group of volunteer quilters.
