Anna Hale

July 20, 1930 – June 30, 2019

Anna Elizabeth “Libby” Hale, 88, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Community Hospice, Ashland, Kentucky. She was born July 20, 1930 in Lawrence County, daughter of the late Edwin and Grace Mann Fullerton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack William Hale; one son, Bill Fullerton; one grandson, David Fullerton; two brothers, Bobby and Billy Fullerton;  and two sisters, Margaret Bowman and Ruth Thery.

Libby was an avid reader and loved her children.

She is survived by one son, Jack D. (Brenda) Hale of South Point; three daughters, Mary (Jack) Havard of Beaumont, Texas; Pamela (Kevin) Holmes, of Forestdale and Bonnie Chapman of Ironton; one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Fullerton Aldridge of Forestdale; one sister, Phyllis Hale; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be noon Wednesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Rob Hale officiating. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery NE, Grayson, Kentucky. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Donald Johnson Sr.

June 30, 2019

Donald Lee Johnson Sr., 84, of Coal Grove, passed away at Community Hospice in Ashland, Kentucky, on Sunday, June 30, 2019, with his family by his side. He was the son of Audrey Broce Johnson and Floyd “Buck” Johnson, of Coal Grove.

He was of the Methodist faith. Don graduated from Dawson-Bryant High School in 1951. He was an Army veteran. He worked at C&0 and Alpha Portland Cement Plant. A self-taught tennis player, Don went on to teach tennis for 25 years locally, in the Ironton and Ashland, Kentucky area. Aside from tennis, he was a softball player and one of the best basketball players in the local city league and was also a nationally ranked tennis player in the 55 age group.

His greatest joy, besides Ohio State and the Reds, was watching his sons competing in basketball, baseball and tennis throughout their school years at Dawson-Bryant. His love for sports is only second to his love for his wife, Kathryn Day Johnson of Ashland, Kentucky. They were married on Nov. 23, 1960 and spent 58 years together.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol McClellan; grandson, Aaron Scott Johnson; and his sister-in-law, Geraldine Johnson.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Don Jr. and wife Bambi (Greiner), Mike and wife Cassy (Aguilera), David and wife Shelly (Roberts); grandchildren: Alex, Owen, Haley and Hayden Johnson; a brother, Ray Johnson; and a sister, Marie Smith.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, with Pastor Brad Jenkins of Memorial Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. A private burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens at a later date.

The Johnson family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Community Hospice in Ashland, Kentucky, for their warmth and kindness. We also want to thank Abbott Healthcare of Coal Grove and Dr. Pinson of Huntington, West Virginia, for all the months they have taken care of Don. We will never forget the kindness you have given to Don.

Frank Sexton

Frank Anthony Sexton Jr., 40, of Portsmouth, died Friday June 28, 2019.

Keeping with his family’s wishes all services will be private.

The family has entrusted services to Brown Funeral Chapel.

Betty Sheppard

March 1, 1934 – June 28, 2019

Betty June Sheppard, 85, of South Point, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019 at her residence.

The Ironton native was born March 1, 1934, a daughter to the late Jonah and Ruth (Basham) Allen.

Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl F. Sheppard, who passed away in 2006.

Mrs. Sheppard was a 1952 graduate of Ironton High School.

Betty was a true friend, who kept in touch with friends from high school 67 years ago.

She enjoyed gourmet cooking, bowling, gardening and spending time with her family. She was of the Christian faith.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Karen Kay Lawson, of South Point and LeighAnne (Rocky) Tyler of Eaton Rapids, Michigan; a special sister in-law, Lela Geswein; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren with two more on the way this summer.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a brother, John Allen; a son, Edward D. Sheppard; and a son-in-law, Gary Ruben Lawson.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Chaplain Roger Wireman officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.

Vincent Stuntebeck

Feb. 27, 1939 – June 29, 2019

Vincent Murray Stuntebeck, 80, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Community Hospice of Ashland, Kentucky with his family present.

He was born Feb. 27, 1939, to the late Vincent Clermont “Doc” Stuntebeck and Alice Murray Stuntebeck.

Vince graduated from St. Joseph High School In 1957 and attended Xavier University and Ohio University.

After serving two years in the United States Army and living two years in San Francisco, California, Vince moved back to Ironton, where he spent 40 years as a banker and retired from US Bank in 2000.

He was a lifetime member of the Ironton Elk’s Lodge #177.

Vince will be remembered for his devout Catholic faith, his gentle nature, sense of humor, the daily walks he took throughout Ironton and his family, to whom he devoted his life.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary (Stewart) Stuntebeck, whom he married on Jan. 4, 1973; his children, Monica (Michael) Mahlmeister, Matthew Stuntebeck (fiancée Hollie Haney) and Mark Stuntebeck; grandchildren, Faith and Michael Mahlmeister, Blake Stuntebeck and Braylen Stuntebeck, all of Ironton; one sister, Susan (Jude) Zwick of Aurora, Illinois; one brother, Thomas (Elise) Stuntebeck, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Katherine Stuntebeck.

Visitation will be today from 6 – 8 p.m. at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home in Ironton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Ironton.

Barbara Albright

Barbara Lou Albright, 58, of Ona, West Virginia, died Friday, June 28, 2019 at Cornerstone Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Albright.

Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with visitation being held 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
