SOUTH POINT — Two days of activities are planned for this holiday weekend in South Point, starting on Friday.

People for the Point will host their annual Party in the Park, featuring food, vendors, music, games and other attractions.

The event is free to the public and will take place in the village’s park, Chris Smith, president of People for the Point, said.

Some activities may have a small fee.

“But 90 percent of our stuff is free,” he said.

Festivities kick off on Friday at 5 p.m. with a cruise-in car show set, featuring cars, truck and motorcycles.

Proceeds from that will go toward purchasing handicapped accessible playground equipment, Smith said.

A talent show is set for the main stage at 7 p.m., with $1,000 in prizes offered, including a $500 top price.

Smith said the winner of that show will perform on the main stage on Saturday.

“It’s open to anyone,” he said of the $20 to enter.

On Saturday morning, a 5K run is set for 9 a.m. at the riverfront. The race will be in honor of military members killed in the line if duty.

Smith said runners would wear shirts of those from South Point who have died in service.

Registration for the run begins at 8:45 a.m. and a memorial ceremony will take place prior to the race.

Activities in the park begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. and a children’s Powerwheels race is set for noon and cornhole tournament will take place at 2 p.m. Registration for that event is $20 per team.

At 3 p.m. the BARKer Shop will host a dog and animal contest, while the Snack Shack will sponsor a hot dog eating contest at 4 p.m.

Music will take place in the evening on the main stage, with performances by Black Dahlia and Chase Jobe, followed by fire works at noon.

Smith said throughout the festivities, there will be a petting zoo from the BARKer Shop, a reptile show, inflatables for the children, 19 vendors and other offerings.
