Editorial: Fair is more than fun, food

For most people heading to the Lawrence County Fair this week, their thoughts are probably on fun and food.

But amongst the flashing lights of the rides and the demolition derbies, there will be a many 4-H members whose projects are getting judged on the projects they have spent the past year working on.

4-H members are a visible symbol of the agricultural roots of this county. Many spend a good part of their day taking care of animals like chickens, goats, lambs, steers or hogs and preparing them for the fair. Others spend time on projects that range from skillful shooting to speaking to clothing to food and nutrition projects.

For these kids, from Cloverbuds to 18 year olds, this week is the culmination of a lot of hard work, time and sacrifice.

And many work at the fair, helping out at the show rings and help things go smoothly.

All the 4-H members of Lawrence County are to be commended for their hard work and effort. Take some time to congratulate them for all they do.
