Ralph Dean

June 26, 1930 – July 7, 2019

Ralph Eugene Dean, 89, passed away July 7, 2019 at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland Kentucky.

He was born June 26, 1930 to the late Warren Sr. and Dorthea (Morris) Dean.

He graduated from Coal Grove High School class of 1948 and attended Ashland Community College, studying civil engineering and used those skills to build his lifelong residence. He was enlisted with the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, where he served in Korea before retiring with the rank of sargent. He worked with the State of Ohio and retired after 30 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Warren Dean Jr.; one daughter, Teri Lynn Dean; and one son, Steven Lee Dean.

He is survived by two daughters, Debra Schweickart of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Lisa Potter of Ironton; daughter-in-law, Cirilda Dean of South Point; grandchildren, Stevi (Mike) Wood, Nikki Wood, Stacy Schweickart, Caleb (Abigail) Potter, Blair (Phil) Moore, and Jared Potter; great-grandchildren, Alexus Wood, Ayden Wood and Callen Moore, and special friend, Betty Newman.

Service will be at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home noon Thursday with visitation one hour before at 11 a.m.

Pastor Ken Gowin will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Wood, Caleb Potter, Jared Potter and Tim Sparks.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Hospice Center of Ashland 1480 Cater Ave. Ashland, KY 41101.

Mitzi Carpenter

Oct. 1, 1973 – July 5, 2019

Mitzi Jenkins Carpenter, 45, of Coal Grove, was taken to soon on July 5, 2019 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center of an unexpected illness. The Sciotoville native was born Oct. 1, 1973, a daughter of the late Ralph E. And Donna Jean (Hilgenberg) Jenkins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Phillip Webb; her sister, Kelli Montgomery; and her sister-in-law, Diane Webb.

Mitzi was a 1992 graduate of East High School and a 1995 graduate of Ohio University with an associates degree in social work. She spent five years with the Lawrence County Domestic Violence Task Force, first as an intern and finally as the program director.

Among Mitzi’s accomplishments, she was a member of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps from Canton, an instructor with Fred J. Miller in Dayton and the color guard instructor for the East High Tartan Regiment from 1993-2000. She also taught color guard at various high schools in the Tri-State area.

She attended Gateway Baptist Church with her husband.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Marc A. Carpenter, who she married Jan. 14, 1995; three beautiful daughters, Gabbie (Ronnie) Norton, Sydnie Carpenter, and Bailie Carpenter; three wonderful grandchildren, Rosalie Elise, Liam Allen and baby #3; a brother, Jerry Webb of Sciotoville; and three sisters,: Luvada (Jeff) Smith of Wheelersburg, Luanne Day of Sciotoville, and Joni Harr of Portsmouth. She is also survived by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dee and Pearl Carpenter of Coal Grove; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carrie and Bob Ellis of Coal Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

The Carpenter family will receive friends from 11 – 1 p.m. Saturday at the Gateway Baptist Church, 310 S. Sixth St., Ironton. A memorial service will follow with Pastor Scott Jenkins officiating.

Charles Carlisle Jr.

Charles I. Carlisle Jr., 47, of Ironton, died Friday, July 5, 2019, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, Kentucky.

Funeral service will be conducted at noon Wednesday at Christ Temple Church 2601 Lexington Ave. Ashland, Kentucky with visitation at 11 a.m. – noon Wednesday at the church.

Harvey Brammer

Harvey Eugene Brammer, 67, of Proctorville, died Monday, July 8, 2019 at The Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley, Ironton.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Visitation will be held 1 – 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

William Bellomy

March 8, 1962 – July 7, 2019

William Arlie Bellomy, 57, of Pedro, passed away July 7, 2019 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

The Louisa, Kentucky native was born March 8, 1962 a son of the late Billy and Norma Johnson Bellomy. He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Litteral Bellomy, whom he married Feb. 14, 2002.

William was a graduate of Lawrence County High School and attended Bear Creek United Methodist Church in Buchanon, Kentucky. He worked as a supervisor at Wal-Mart and enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, bowling, and fishing.

In addition to his wife he is also survived by three daughters, Lisa (Tim) Nicely of Pedro; Candis Litteral/Caplinger of Flatwoods, Kentucky; and Kayla (Shawn Rice) Litteral of Ashland, Kentucky; a brother, Robert Bellomy of Catlettsburg, Kentucky; two sisters, Pamela Taylor of Louisa Kentucky, and Melissa Qualls of Georgetown, Kentucky; father-in-law, Roger Dodson; as well as seven grandchildren, Kaylee, Annie, Christopher, Caitlyn, Joshlyn, and Emma, Ryker.

He was preceded in death by a mother-in-law, Norma Jean Dodson.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, family and friends are welcome to meet at Woodland Cemetery, 824 Lorain St., Ironton. Pastor Mike Cox will be officiating.

Maria Shantel Simpkins, 26, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Friday, July 5, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.

Wilma Lewis Skidmore, 93, of Ironton, died Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at her residence in Ironton.

William E. Castle, 80, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Monday, July 8, 2019, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, with Pastor Randy Patrick and Pastor Phillip Stapleton officiating and burial will follow in Haverhill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 –8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
