WESTWOOD, Ky. — Grind ‘em up.
The River City Buccaneers used a strong ground game to post an easy 56-20 win over the Portsmouth Stealth on Saturday.
The Buccaneers had 318 yards rushing on just 35 attempts.
Luke Brown led the ground game with 139 yards on 10 carries. Markel Cain ran five times for 64 yards, L.J. Warfield 56 yards on nine rushes, Fred Crozier 15 yards on three tries, Keith Adams nine yards on three attempts and Jack Bruer 35 yards on five attempts with a touchdown.
Job Swords was 3-of-9 pass for 52 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also ran seven times for 37 yards.
Dale Swords was 1-for-1 passing for 38 yards and a touchdown. The Bucs were 4-of-12 passing overall for 90 yards and two touchdowns, thus giving them 408 total yards.
Chase Devore caught one pass for 13 yards and a score giving him two straight games with a receiving touchdown.
Crozier had two catches for 39 yards and Andre Canada one grab for 38 yards and a TD.
Dale Swords had a 35-yard interception return in the first quarter to give the Bucs a 6-0 lead.
Swords passed 38 yards to Canada in the second quarter and Cain added the conversion run for a 14-0 lead
Job Swords scored on a 5-yard keep and the lead was 21-0 with 9:06 left in the half.
The Stealth got a 30-yard interception return with 3:39 on the clock and trailed 21-6 at the half.
A 40-yard fumble return got the Stealth within 21-12 to begin the second half, but the Bucs scored 35 unanswered points to win going away.
Cedric Legette return the kickoff for a touchdown to get the momentum going on the Bucs’ side.
Brown rambled 35 yards for a touchdowns and Job Swords hit Elijah Adams with the conversion passed.
Job Swords then threw 13 yards to Chase Devore for a TD with 4:03 left in the quarter and it was 42-20.
Adams had a 3-yard scoring run and Brown took care of the conversion run and it was 50-20 with 12:08 to play.
The final score came on a 1-yard run by Bruer with one minute left.
