While it’s been hot for the last few weeks, today and tomorrow are supposed to be particularly sweltering.

Temperatures are supposed to reach the mid to upper 90s, depending on the forecasting service you read.

Such conditions can be hazardous to your health, so here are some tips from the American Red Cross to help deal with the hot weather.

• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.

• Eat small meals and eat more often.

• Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors that absorb the sun’s rays.

• Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.

• Take frequent breaks if you must work outdoors.

• Check on family, friends and neighbors who do not have air conditioning, who spend much of their time alone or who are more likely to be affected by the heat.

And, lastly, do not forget animals in this weather. Check frequently to ensure that they are not suffering from the heat and have plenty of food and water.
