Farmers market set for Saturdays: Locals asked to set up and vend

PROCTORVILLE — The public is invited to come out each Saturday morning for a farmers market at The Crossing Baptist Church in Proctorville.

“Local farmers are welcome to set up each Saturday morning,” Karen Graham, an organizer, said. “You can make use of the covered porch area or the parking lot. There is no fee for local farmers, no space rental or anything like that.  They just come with their produce, and a table and chair, and sell their produce at the prices they set.”

The church is located at 6262 County Road 107, directly behind the post office. The event will run from 8 a.m.-noon, as long as there is produce to sell, she said.

“A lot of our local farmers will set up stands along side the road,” Graham said. “This isn’t always safe for the farmer, their customers, or others driving by. It also means their only customers are people who are traveling in that area anyway. Saturday mornings in Proctorville are busy with grocery shopping, running errands, etc., so why not bring the produce to where the people already are? The Crossing does not profit from this in any way, other than the opportunity to support our local farmers.”
