Virginia Reed
Sept. 19, 1941 – July 19, 2019
Virginia Ann “Jenny” Reed, 77, of Ironton, to be with the Lord on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Cleveland, after an extended illness. She was born Sept. 19, 1941 in Somerset, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Theodore and Nora Easterling Murphy.
She was as an accountant/bookkeeper with Ida Stapleton’s Tax Service, Reed’s Tax Service and the Moose Lodge #701 and owned and operated Reed’s Cruz Thru.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, John Reed; one brother, Dennis Murphy Sr.; and one grandson, Brent Reed.
She is survived by her beloved sons, David Reed and daughter-in-law, Kim Reed, Steve Reed, and Mike Reed all of Ironton; six grandchildren, J.D. Reed III, Travis N. Reed, Tiffany Reed, Madison Taylor, Tanner Reed, and James Michael Reed; two sisters, Reba Houston and brother-in-law James Houston, and Janet James, all of Ironton, two brothers, Ted Murphy Jr. and Frank Murphy and sister-in-law, Christi Murphy, all of Ironton, and sister-in-law, Norma Murphy of Ironton; five great-grandchildren, Oliver Reed, Isabelle Brown, Oliver Brown, Aubrey Davidson, and Spencer Reed; several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday at the Knight’s of Columbus’ K of C Hall, 2101 S. Third St., Ironton.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton with Father David Huffman officiating.
Sylvia Lawless
Nov. 1, 1935 – July 28, 2019
Sylvia M. Lawless, 83, of Coryville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at her home. She was born Nov. 1, 1935, a daughter to the late John D. and Alaphanie (Griffith) Sisler. She was married to Earl C. Lawless, who preceded her in death on May 1, 2002.
Sylvia was a graduate of Ironton High School Class of 1953. She was a former employee of Rock Hill Local Schools and was a retired case worker for Lawrence County Department of Job and Family Services.
Sib and Earl raised seven children in Coryville, always putting her family first in everything she did. She always enjoyed family gatherings, the holidays (especially Christmas) and the large meals that she prepared for her family. Her daily ride with her youngest son Rex and a cold Pepsi were always the highlight of her day. She also loved and cared for her many furry pets.
Sylvia is survived by three daughters, Donna Scott, Judene (Gary) Miller, and Cecelia (Neal) Reynolds; three sons, Faron, Randy (Monica) and Rex (Jennifer); nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Earl “Doug” Lawless; two daughters-in-laws, Kathi Ellen Lawless and Kathy Jo Lawless; and her sister, Donna Kay Carpenter
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Bro. Dave Schug officiating. Burial will follow in Lawless Family Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
