Local favorite Larry Whitt will be bringing his blues and gospel to Ironton Alive’s Summer Concert series tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The Ashland, Kentucky native has been playing concerts for decades and has played the Tuesday night concerts several times.

He brings a unique approach to both acoustic and electric guitar and is known for his powerful vocal talent. Whitt spent many years in Chicago and became part of the city’s famous blues music and traditional gospel music scenes.

Whitt performs as a solo artist as well as in a duo with bassist Brent Jack, and as leader of the full band Larry Whitt & Blue Eyed Soul along with Jack, guitarist Mike Allen, percussionist Tom Berry and drummer Dewey Frye.

Whitt credits his father, Bob, for providing a foundation of bluegrass and traditional country music that helped forge his own musical style, and as a blues-rock guitarist, Whitt cites influences including Scotty Moore, Carl Perkins and Gary Moore. As a nod to one of those influential guitarists, Whitt always plays his James Burton signature model Fender Telecaster during his live performances

The free concert is held at the Ironton Farmers Market pavilion on South Second Street. It is a family-friendly event and people should bring a lawn chair.
