Ohio University Southern will welcome new students to the Fall semester with a special ceremony on Aug. 22.

The Fall Convocation will serve as the official convening of first year and new students and will provide an opportunity for them to meet other new students as well as faculty and staff.

The convocation is hoped to help provide a platform for the first year and new students to get acquainted with Ohio Southern and learn about campus resources.

“We want these students to feel welcome to the Bobcat family,” Salome Nnoromele, associate dean of Ohio Southern, said.  “This event is a kick-off of the new academic year.”

Activities include a processional by students, faculty and staff; a welcome by Nicole Pennington, interim executive dean for Ohio Regional Higher Education and dean of Ohio Southern, and a special video presentation.

The featured convocation speaker is Candi Crawford Morris, a Southern alumna who currently serves as associate vice provost for instructional innovation for Ohio University.

Those in attendance are invited to a Dean’s Welcome Reception and Celebration after the convocation ceremony.

The convocation is sponsored by Citizens Deposit Bank. Stephanie Burcham, director of Development for Ohio Southern said support from businesses and organizations are vital for the campus.

“The success of our students rests on the collaboration of both our campus and the community,” she said.
