Making villages brighter

Last week, the park on Wilgus Street in Proctorville underwent a major facelift.

Volunteers from he Crossing Baptist Church, as part of their interest in public service, restored playground equipment and painted and replaced basketball hoops, among other tasks.

They were joined, as they have been on past projects, by members of Midway Heights Baptist Church of Missouri. That church’s pastor, Scott Hanson, attended seminary with Crossing’s pastor, Ricky Ray.

The churches were inspired to do this work by Brooklyn, a four-year-old girl, who was forbidden by her parents from playing at the park, as it deemed too dangerous.

Once the playground equipment was restored and made safe, the volunteers dedicated it as “Brooklyn’s Place.”

We thank and commend all who took part in this work, which included more than 40 people, both full- and part-time.

This effort goes a long way to making better communities in Lawrence County and gives those who live here something to take pride in.
