On Saturday, more than 80 people attended the second annual fundraising dinner and silent auction for Harvest for the Hungry food pantry in Ironton.

The event, which took place at First Nazarene Church serves as the main fundraiser for the year for the pantry, which serves the needy throughout Lawrence County.

We are thankful that so many came forward to aid the pantry in its mission, as Lawrence County is in need of organizations like Harvest for the Hungry.

Statistics show that the county ranks second highest in the state for need of food assistance.

All proceeds from both the auction and dinner went to the pantry’s efforts, which involved feeding families throughout the year, as well as providing a special Thanksgiving dinner package each November.

The holiday giveaway comes about through the support of the community, such as the National Wild Turkey Federation, which provides turkeys each year, as well as monetary donations from individuals.

We encourage everyone who can to contribute to Harvest, whether it is through donations, or simply by shopping at Nancy’s Nook thrift store, which benefits the pantry.

Your donations and dollars can go a long way to helping those who are a disadvantage and making both the year and the holidays brighter for them.
