Lady Flyers start SOC with win over East

SCIOTOVILLE — It was a nice way to begin their return to the Southern Ohio Conference.
After being a member of the SOC during the 1980s, St. Joseph is back in the league this fall and the Lady Flyers’ volleyball team began conference play with a 3-1 win over the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans on Tuesday.
The Lady Flyers dropped the first set 20-25 but then won three straight, 25-17, 25-22 and 26-24.
St. Joseph used a total team effort to get the win.
Chloe Sheridan had a solid all-around game with three aces, 17 assists and 1 digs.
Jadyn Green also turned in a strong effort with an ace, 11 kills and 13 digs.
Faith Mahlmeister amassed up six kills and seven digs while Gracie Damron came up big with six aces, three kills and four digs.
Also for the Lady Flyers, Bella Whaley had an ace and five digs, Emilee Blankenship two aces and an assist and Jade DeGiorgia racked up 13 digs.
The Lady Flyers actually trailed 16-6 in the fourth but refused to quit as they mounted a big comeback.
Damron had several key serves as the Lady Flyers tied the game at 24 and then Bella Whaley got two the final two serves that St. Joseph turned into the winning points.
St. Joseph visits Green at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
