A special day in the outdoors

Tomorrow morning, a caravan will depart from Tractor Supply in South Point for a special destination.

It will be the annual fishing event, organized by Special Needs Youth Sportsmen.

Each year, the nonprofit takes a group of children, faced with disabilities, to the event, where they and their families are treated to a day on a lake and a chance to take in the outdoors that they might not otherwise get.

This is one of several events throughout the year that the group organizes, which also includes a deer hunt, archery, target shooting, nature walks and more.

In addition, the families are provided with breakfast and lunch on the trip, all free of cost.

There is no pre-registration for the event and all participants need to do is show up at the meeting place at 8 a.m.

We commend the group for all that they do for special needs youth in the county.

These activities mean a lot to the children involved and the group’s work is a commitment to promote inclusion and an act of kindness that is much needed.
