Give until it helps

For many kids, back to school meant getting new clothes and school gear.

For too many other kids in our area, it meant getting back to having a reliable, regular source of food with school lunches.

Too often, those same kids don’t have a steady source of food on the weekends, which is where the Backpack Buddies come in.

Backpack Buddies does its best to make sure that food-insecure kids have something to eat over the weekend.

And this is food that requires little to no cooking.

But filling up those backpacks requires help and that is where you come in.

Currently, Armstrong has 23 large boxes at Lawrence County businesses and at both Ohio University campuses, as part of their Avenge Hunger food drive.

Those boxes will be there until Oct. 4.

We commend all those involved in helping Backpack Buddies and ask everyone to contribute a little to help out.

For just a couple of bucks for some mac and cheese, you can know that there will be a child in Lawrence County that doesn’t go to bed hungry on a Sunday night.
