Finding forever homes

Earlier this week, the Lawrence County Animal Shelter hosted a special Labor Day event in which the adoption fee was waived for all cats.

The shelter has recently experienced an overpopulation of cats, with its cat room full. This has been a similar situation in neighboring counties.

A lot of this is due to pet owners not doing their part to control the pet population and not following through and getting animals spayed or neutered, allowing the number of cats to multiply exponentially.

Which is why it was good that the Lawrence County Humane Society collaborated with the shelter and offered certificates on Tuesday for a free spay or neuter with the adoption.

The day appeared to be a success, with more than a dozen cats adopted when The Tribune stopped by around noon at the midpoint of the event.

We commend the shelter and Humane Society for putting Tuesday’s event together and we hope the effort does not stop there.

But there are still animals that need homes and we encourage anyone who is willing and able to visit the shelter and consider taking home a dog or cat and giving them a forever home.
