Virginia Combs Davis

Feb. 3, 1925 – Sept. 2, 2019

Virginia Markin Combs Davis, 94, of Lafayette, Louisiana, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 2, 2019 at her residence with her two daughters by her side.

The Ironton native was born Feb. 3, 1925; a daughter of the late Rom and Genevieve Payne Markin Sr. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margret Markin; her first husband, Frank Combs Jr.; and second husband, David J. Davis.

Virginia was born and raised in Ironton and moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with her family in 1969.

Mrs. Davis graduated from Ironton High School in 1942 and worked as an executive secretary in Ironton and Baton Rouge for many years. She was a devoted homemaker for her family. Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Virginia is survived by her brother, Dr. Rom Markin Jr.; his wife, Mitzi Markin; and their three children. She is also survived by her children, Sandra (Elliott) Smith, Rick (Carolyn) Combs, and Sheila (Bob) Fox; and stepsons, Dr. Jack (Jeannine) Davis, Jim (Debbie) Davis, and Bill Davis. She leaves a legacy of ten grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Monday at Woodland Cemetery, 824 Lorain St., Ironton with son-in-law, Elliot Smith, officiating. Visitation was held at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, from 12:45 – 1:45 p.m. on Monday.

Sharon Deer

Aug. 12, 1947 – Sept. 7, 2019

Sharon Deer, 72, of Ironton, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019.

She was born Aug. 12, 1947, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Musick Allen, who proceeded her.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Deer; three daughters, Leah (Mike) Sayers, Lisa Dawn Gannon, and Bobbie Jo Anson; one brother, Frank Allen; two stepsisters, Karen Horsley and  Pam Martin; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Also proceeding her was one brother, Johnny Ray Allen; one sister, Cathy May Hoskins; and stepfather, Jim Martin.

Visitation will be on Wednesday at 10 a.m. until time of service. Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with Dave Shugg officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Kimberly Strunk

Oct. 14, 1976 – Sept. 5, 2019

Kimberly Ann Strunk, 42, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, in Saint Mary’s Medical Center, Ironton.

Kimberly was born Oct. 14, 1976, in Ironton, the daughter of Stephen and Connie (Jarvis) Strunk. She is also survived by her three sons, Brandon Strunk, Nathan Strunk and Caleb Dickerson.

There will be a private funeral service and Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Phillips Funeral Home, PO Box 122, Ironton, Ohio to help with funeral expenses.

Barbara Urban

Barbara Jean Urban, 75, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Friday Sept. 6, 2019 at her residence. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Urban.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Hazel White

Hazel M. White, 93, of Crown City, died, Saturday Sept. 7, 2019 at home.

Funeral service were held Monday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial followed in Crown City Cemetery, Crown City.

Raymond Carroll

Raymond W. Carroll, 76, of Glenwood, West Virginia, died Friday Sept. 6, 2019 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Judy Carroll.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, West Virginia. Visitation will be held 1 – 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Maynard Spacek

Maynard Spacek, 79, of Huntington, West Virginia, passed away Saturday Sept. 7, 2019 at Hospice House of Huntington.
