Flyers blank New Boston

NEW BOSTON — If the other team doesn’t score, you don’t lose too many.
The St. Joseph Flyers soccer team has three wins this season thanks to a shutout including a 4-0 blanking of the New Boston Tigers on Tuesday.
The win was also the first in the Southern Ohio Conference for the Flyers.
“Our defense consisting of Bryce Balestra, Jared Johson, Michael Mahlmeister, Max Weber, Andrew White and Jimmy Mahlmeister had an excellent game to shut down New Boston’s scoring attack,” said Flyers’ coach Mike Balestra.
Goalkeeper Jimmy Mahlmeister had four saves as he recorded another shutout.
Jackson Rowe scored two goals for the Flyers while Zach Roach and Ryan Payne each had a goal.
Bryce Balestra, J.D. Damron and Johnson all had an assist.
St. Joseph had 22 shots with 13 on goal. They had two offside penalties, nine fouls, eight corner kicks and eight free kicks.
New Boston had 11 shots with four on goal. The Tigers had eight fouls, one corner kick and nine free kicks.
Goalie Brady Voiers had nine saves for New Boston.
The Flyers host Portsmouth Clay on Thursday in an SOC game.
