Giving Back to Veterans Day event will return to Ironton Farmers Market Square on Thursday, Sept. 26.

This will be the third year for the event.

Organizer Kim Maynard, RN, has been a home health nurse for a long time and has taken care of a lot of veterans and always enjoyed their stories of their time in the service.

She helped create the event to give back to the veterans and show how much they are appreciated.

“I appreciate their service and always appreciated their stories, whether they were happy or sad,” she said. “This event was something I wanted to do to show them they are appreciated.”

The event will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. with a flag ceremony, soup beans, many booths for veterans to find out about programs, a booth manned by students from Collins Career Technical Center and the Veterans Mobile Unit to provide information about services veterans may be eligible for. Resource tables were set up under the pavilion in case of bad weather.

“I hope what our veterans take away from this is that they are appreciated and to gain some knowledge of the resources that are available out there,” Maynard said. And we just want them to enjoy the day and the food.”

Other details will be available as they are finalized for the event.

Market Square is located at 220 S. Second St. in Ironton.
