WILLOW WOOD — Instead of getting referees for the game Friday night, Symmes Valley coach Rusty Webb should have hired Highway Patrol officers.
The Chesapeake Panthers used their speed to run for 417 yards in a 49-6 win over the Vikings.
“They just have a lot of speed all over the field. It’s hard for us to match up,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.
“But our kids never quit. We came out the second half and we were moving the ball. We exchanged turnovers and then we were able to punch it in. We’ll go back, see what we did wrong and try our best to improve.”
Chesapeake jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead as Will Todd ran 18 yards for a score, Kamren Harless then returns a punt 50 yards for a touchdown and Donald Richendollar had a 14-yard keeper.
The Panthers extended the lead to 35-0 by halftime as Logan Walsh raced 27 yards for a TD and Richendollar went 4 yards for a score.
The Vikings came out the second half and got a 2-yard run by Jack Leith to cut the deficit to 35-6.
But the Panthers erased any comeback hopes in the fourth quarter as Richendollar went 5 yards for his third score of the game and Marcus Burnside got loose on a 34-yard run.
Randy Wilson kicked all seven conversions for the Panthers.
Todd led the balanced Chesapeake ground game with 97 yards on six carries with Harless adding 88 yards on eight tries.
Walsh had 57 yards, Nida 52 and Richendollar 44 in the speedy and deep backfield.
The Vikings had 144 yards rushing with Leith running 13 times for 65 yards and Ethan Patterson added 50 yards on just four carries.
The Vikings visit Fairview, Ky., next Friday.
