After a three-day trial in the Lawrence County Common Pleas Court, a jury found a man guilty on multiple drug charges.
On Wednesday, Spanish M. Smith, 29, of Proctorville, was found guilty on one count of trafficking in heroin, a felony of the first degree, an amount over 100 grams that designates him a major drug offender, with specifications to firearms and cash; five counts of trafficking in heroin, felonies of the fourth degree; five counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), felonies of the second degree; and one count of having weapons while under disability, a felony of the third degree.
Smith will be sentenced at 9 a.m. today in the court of Judge Christen Finley.
The case was presented by Lawrence County Prosecutor Brigham Anderson. Jurors heard testimony from chief investigator David Marcum and investigator Perry Adkins both of the Lawrence County Drug and Major Crimes Task Force and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation forensic scientist, Elizabeth Wolford.
This case came to trial after an investigation conducted by Investigators with the Lawrence County Drug and Major Crimes Task Force earlier this year.
Task Force Officers made numerous undercover controlled purchases of heroin and methamphetamine from Smith at his apartment in Proctorville between Feb. 5 and Feb. 19.
Task Force Officers obtained search warrants for two apartments utilized by Smith. Officers found approximately 120 grams of heroin, with an approximate street value of $10,000, 121 grams of methamphetamine, with an approximate street value of $10,000, $33,385 in cash, two shotguns, digital scales and baggies for packaging drugs.
He had been indicted on 17 drug-related charges by the Lawrence County Grand Jury in April.
