PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redwomen were faced with a must-win situation, and win they did.
The Redwomen edged league-leading the Gallipolis Blue Angels 2-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Rock Hill is 9-1-1 on the season and tied with Gallipolis for first place in the OVC at 5-1. Both teams have two games remaining in league play.
“It was a great team effort. That was a huge win,” said Redwomen coach Luke Simpson. “We put our fate in our own hands.”
The game was scoreless until Makayla Scott scored at the 14-minute mark with an assist from Lucy Simpson.
Gallipolis (6-5) tied the game on an unassisted goal by Kyrsten Sanders six minutes later.
With 25 minutes on the first half clock, the league’s leading scorer Bri Reynolds got an assist from Emmi Stevens and drilled a goal from 25 yards away for what proved to be the winning goal.
Rock Hill had 14 shots to only two for Gallipolis. Redwomen goalie Grace Stevens left the net area to stop several balls as the Blue Angels failed the threaten.
