On Tuesday, the Lawrence County Board of Elections got a complaint in the Ironton mayor’s race.

Ironton Mayor Katrina Keith filed a complaint with the board that her challenger, Sam Cramblit, has not been a resident of Ironton long enough to qualify to run for office.

The charter of the City of Ironton states under Article III, Section 3.01 that “The Mayor shall be an elector and resident of the City of Ironton, Ohio, for at least five years preceding the election, and remain a resident of the City during his term of office. The Mayor shall hold no other elected office, nor hold any other employment with the City of Ironton. The position of Mayor is to be a full-time position.”

Keith filed the complaint Tuesday morning with the board.

Cramblit said that he has always been a resident of Ironton and that the complaint is not even an issue.

“I have never changed my address. I have been a qualified voter here since I turned 18,” he said. “I’m not sweating it. I just think it is a tactic of theirs.”

He said that he has always traveled for business but always kept his address in Ironton.

“I’m aware of what the ordinance says and there is nothing that would disqualify me. I have been a qualified voter for the five years with this residency. My driver’s license says so, my bank statement says so. I have bills and everything to prove it.”

Lawrence County Board of Elections director Cathy Snider said that the complaint would be brought before the board at their next meeting on Oct. 17.

Keith did not return a phone call to The Ironton Tribune before press time.
